Nicole Barnett

Nicole Barnett

CPA, Partner

Hi, I’m Nicole Barnett, Partner at Insight. I’ve spent over 10 years as a Chartered Professional Accountant helping business owners make sense of their numbers and plan for the future. My passion is turning financial data into clear, actionable insights so you can feel confident about where your business is headed.

I’m a proud graduate of the University of Lethbridge and honored to have been recognized as one of the Lethbridge Chamber of Commerce Top 40 Under 40. What drives me most is seeing entrepreneurs achieve their goals—both in business and in life—by building strong financial foundations.

Family is incredibly important to me. When I’m not working with clients, you’ll find me camping, golfing, or cheering on my kids at whatever activity they’re involved in. Those moments remind me why planning for the future matters—because it’s about creating the life you want, both professionally and personally.

At Insight, I work closely with clients to simplify the complex, uncover opportunities, and create strategies that support growth and resilience. My goal is to make financial planning feel less intimidating and more empowering.

Joanna Kappel

Joanna Kappel

CPA, Partner, MPAcc

Hi, I’m Joanna Kappel, Partner at Insight. I’ve worked in public practice since 2004, helping businesses navigate year-end assurance and non-assurance engagements, as well as managing data processing projects. My role also includes overseeing our internal project management to keep everything running smoothly.

I’m a proud graduate of the CPA program and have spent over 10 years as a Chartered Professional Accountant. Beyond the office, I’ve been deeply involved in the community, serving on boards such as the Rotary Club of Lethbridge (2015–present) and the Lethbridge Youth Foundation (2011–2018). Giving back is something I truly value.

When I’m not working with clients, you’ll find me exploring new destinations or hiking trails—travel and the outdoors are my favorite ways to recharge. These experiences remind me why planning and organization matter: they create space for the things that bring joy and balance.

At Insight, my goal is to simplify complex processes, deliver accurate results, and support clients in building strong foundations for success. I believe that clarity and efficiency are key to helping businesses thrive.

Loralee Burton

Loralee Burton

CPA, Partner

Hi, I’m Loralee Burton, Founding Partner at Insight. I’ve been in public practice almost exclusively since 1988, and what I love most is working with people—solving problems, helping businesses grow, and supporting owners as they stay compliant and confident in their decisions.

My career has taken me through many facets of accounting, from bookkeeper and accounting technician to articling student, before earning my CA designation in 2003. Along the way, I’ve also gained experience as a government auditor and assistant controller, which gave me a broader perspective on business operations.

I was born in Calgary, grew up in Thompson, Manitoba, and earned my Bachelor of Arts in Economics with a minor in Accounting from the University of Manitoba and Brandon University. Lethbridge became home in 2000, and since then, I’ve been deeply involved in the community—serving as an active member of the Rotary Club for 25 years and contributing to organizations like the University of Lethbridge Senate, Women’s Soccer Association, the Lethbridge Dragon Boat Festival, and the Original Lethbridge Business Breakfast Club.

Outside of work, you’ll find me skiing, traveling, dancing, or enjoying music—activities that keep me energized and inspired. These moments remind me why strong financial foundations matter: they create freedom to do what you love.

At Insight, my focus is on guiding clients through challenges, uncovering opportunities, and building strategies that support growth and resilience. My goal is to make the complex feel simple and empower business owners to thrive.

Trevor Miller

Trevor Miller

CPA, Partner, CFP

Hi, I’m Trevor Miller, Partner at Insight. I focus on personal and corporate tax, financial planning, and tax strategies that help clients plan for the future—not just save on taxes. My goal is to make tax and financial planning feel approachable and practical so business owners can make confident decisions.

I’ve been practicing accounting for 10 years, earning my CPA designation in 2019 and completing the Certified Financial Planner (CFP) designation in 2021. To deepen my expertise, I’m currently enrolled in the CPA In-Depth Tax Program, which allows me to tackle complex tax matters and uncover planning opportunities for the diverse businesses and industries I work with.

From 2021 to 2025, I taught at a local organization, helping new entrepreneurs understand personal and corporate tax, avoid common pitfalls, and navigate obligations that often challenge new businesses. Sharing practical, real-world knowledge is something I’m passionate about—it sets business owners up for success from day one.

Outside of work, you’ll find me spending time with my wife and son—and honestly, what more do you need than that? Those moments remind me why planning matters: it’s about creating the life you want, both professionally and personally.

At Insight, I work closely with clients to simplify the complex, identify opportunities, and build strategies that support growth and resilience. My mission is to make financial planning less intimidating and more empowering.
